A note for
all drivers that raced at Maryborough on the 29th
November, Due to the race being shortened and the payment
structure changing payments were not issued on the night as we
planned due to the cheques had to be changed, one of the 2
signatories of the cheques has been interstate for a week and
the payments have not yet been sent. I hope to have them away by
the 10th of Dec. I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused. I am
sure most of you will understand.

Below is a
statement from Ryan Harris Maryborough speedway President
Last night at the Maryborough Sporting Car Club held a
management meeting and it was decided to drop Super Street from
the June long weekend meeting. They are still running here in
May for the Series round. They have been dropped from the June
long weekend meeting as we have the V8 Sprintcar Qld Title and
the Qld Litre Sprintcar Title on the same weekend and are going
to run our two local classes as support which tradionally is a
big meeting for Streets and Junior Streets.
We have been getting a lot of flack from our own classes in
Maryborough because we run other divisions like Super Street
that we don't have any of. Divisions like Junior Streets and
Junior Sedans which we have at least 6 of each now, only run on
their home track 4 or 5 times this season. Divisions like
Compact Speedcars which we have 6 of, only race here 3 times and
Formula 500's which we have 12 of, only race at home 4 times. So
our club members are going off because they are missing out on
racing on there home track.
Super Streets have been very lack luster of late at Gympie and
Maryborough and although Trevor is pouring his heart and sole
and money into it, drivers aren't coming out in big numbers and
putting on the show that they used to. Super Streets have
continually had large amounts of DNF's or DNS's throughout the
night and start feature races with low car counts which makes
for boring racing that hasn't been exciting and is very
un-entertaining.
Therefore it is more viable for our club to run divisions like
Juniors, Compacts or Formula 500's for example, that get bigger
car counts and put on better racing for less prize/tow money. We
have Dwarf Cars in our club that don't even get a run a
Maryborough this season...
There seems to be a fair few rumours flying around about how
much money our club is apparently making, but I can assure you
we aren't in the position that you all think we are in. And for
the record... with the overcast conditions on Saturday night and
the forecast for rain, our club lost more money but we all still
paid you the advertised amount, just like September and just
like October when we lost more money.
Yes, i cancelled the Super Street final after 3 laps on Saturday
night because we were 45 minutes past curfew (which I had phone
calls about on Monday morning), and after two big crashes. Yes I
have been copping a flogging about over programming at our
monthly meetings but if divisions want to race here, that is
what has to happen, because we are all still volunteers who
don't get a cent from the club, and don't want to be out there
every weekend and spending everyday organising a race meetings.
I don't really want to go and run a practice meeting on Saturday
night, as I would rather be at home on the couch having a couple
of rum's with my beautiful wife, but because so many people
wanted to have a practice and for the good of the sport we are
into it again. So we have been stocking fridges, doing orders,
preparing the track, organising workers, organising a practice
permit, organising an ambulance, getting fire ext filled and all
that crap etc etc etc etc etc, while organising the next race
meeting on 27th December.
Our chief steward Bob Wells did a fantastic job on the weekend
and the Maryborough Speedway will stand by him 100%. He turns up
every meeting without question and does the best job to his
ability and that is all we ask for, and he does it all for a
steakburger and a cup of chips. We mighten all agree on some of
the decisions, but that is just how it is. We all make mistakes
just like drivers, but for some reason it is the chief stewards
fault when accidents happen and he is the one that has to clean
up all the mess...

Saturday nights racing at Maryborough saw the second
round of the AMT Super Street Challenge shortened by officials
because of curfew concerns after a 4th lap incident involving
Steve Cook in the C22 Ford, which hit the fence after turn 1.
Andrew Roberts was the leader at the time and looked the goods
after starting from pole position. Perfect track conditions were
made available from the Maryborough club on a night where track
records toppled in the nights main attraction (midgets)
As per the "Australian Speedway Racing Rules and Regulations
July 08" as stated in rule 4.24 (Feature race declared short)
all prize money and series points allocated to the feature
will be evenly distributed amongst the starters due to 50% of
the race was not completed.
There were Concerns from race organisers after the race that
driving standards had slipped to a level that was of concern and
all agreed that there was a need for more severe penalties
to be applied to any driver that persistently breaches the
Racing Rules. When the track is as good as it was on Saturday
night there are no reasonable excuses for reckless driving which
leads to people being injured and put in a position where they
may not be able to work for a period, or even worse. When
all they are out to do is enjoy themselves on a Saturday night.
Most drivers are complaining bitterly but privately about the
actions of a minority, this minority are taking the enjoyment
out of our sport for the majority and something needs to be done
before a serious injury is caused by this minority or from some
form of retaliation.
A small group of people are working very hard to make the
category viable to promoters and sponsors but the actions of
some competitors, on and off the track are an embarrassment to
the sport and are making it very difficult to maintain peoples
interest in the category. Unless driving standards change for
the better there is a real chance that the category will implode
and cars will leave in droves.
As a once famous race driver was heard to say "Racing is meant
to be fun..... can someone please tell me when the fun starts !"

With a total of 16 cars
nominated for the 29th of November at Maryborough it looks like
being another great nights racing leading up to the 30 lap
feature. It will be interesting to see how Jason Flickweert
fairs against the likes of Gaunt, Jenkins, and Thomas on the
circle track at Maryborough. Jenkins doesn't have much to prove
after a green to chequer run at the first round of the AMT
challenge a month ago at Mothar Mountain, while the rest of the
field will be door to door to try and build up points towards
catching Jenkins's tally and the grand prize Of $1000 at
the end of round 6.
Given the right conditions and some luck any one of 6 or 8
drivers could take the feature from Jenkins Including Roberts,
Dawson, Reynolds, Kent or Thomas. Good luck to everyone and I
hope we can all bring home straight cars.
Log Books and payouts will be at the
AMT transporter straight after our feature.
Transponders will be in use and the payment of them will be
$10.00, to save you hassles we will be deducting this from the
nightly payouts and the association will pay Pam from the QSCA.
Transponders should be returned to the AMT transporter before or
when the payouts are completed
Nominations are:
Anthony Gaunt
Anthony Sturgess
Jason Beer
Steve Cook
Mick Budgen
Joel Thomas
Neil Keldoulis
Andrew Roberts
Jason Flickweert
Justin Jenkins
Nigel Mulvena

You asked and
she delivered, Mothar Mountain Speedway came alive on
Saturday night and with the threat of storms and hail
amidst, drivers and cars were there with one thing in mind,
to race and win.
All the
classes of racing provided fantastic entertainment and
spectacular racing. The main feature event was round 1 of
the Advanced Metal Turning Super Street Challenge sponsored
by Budget Towing. A 16 car field saw 6 heats of this
volatile two seater class qualifying for a 30 lap feature
event which saw local driver Justin Jenkins in his Velmec
Automotive Cortina on pole after two heat wins and third
placing. Jenkins lead all the way from the start and fended
off various challenges throughout the fast and furious 30
lap final to win the first round of the series.
The K1 Race
Gear junior Street Challenge saw various tangles and
promising racing futures in the making as Brad Jennings
dominated and sailed away with victory in his Landrover
Spares sponsored commodore.
"The track
was great all night, as it had to cope with Juniors through
to 700 hp Super Sedans and never faltered which was a credit
to the committee and volunteers who provide us with a great
facility each meeting."
Other winners
were Charlie Brown in the Juniors, Tim Atkins took out the
Street Sedans, Modified Production was dominated by local
driver Glenn Pagel & Jeff O’Keefe took out the Super Sedan
round.
Our next
meeting is held on the Saturday, 15 Nov 08, see you there
for another night of racing including the second round of
the G&W Modified Production Series
